The most important thing in your quest for clean, clear skin is finding an effective way to get rid of the pimples. Before you can get rid of pimples, though, you need to clearly understand what causes pimples in the first place.

What causes pimples?

To start with we need to understand how your skin functions.

causes of acne and pimplesYour skin surface contains literally millions of small pores. The small hairs you have on your skin surface grow up through some of these pores. If you were to start at the skin s surface and slide down the pore into the deeper layers of skin, you would find several tiny glands that produce natural oils. These glands are called sebaceous glands, and the oil they produce is known as sebum.

Sebum is produced by your body as a natural moisturizer for your skin.Another function of sebum is to carry impurities like dirt and dead skin cells up to the surface of the skin, allowing them to be removed, thus keeping the actual pore clean.Getting rid of dirt and dead skin cells is a natural process your body performs in order to keep your skin healthy and supple.

Most people will agree, puberty has a lot to answer for, with many different chemicals, including hormones, being produced by your body. It will take time for your hormone levels to balance, until then they can fluctuate quite dramatically.

Your skin doesn’t like these huge fluctuations and the general response is an out-break of acne and pimples.

An unfortunate consequence of extra hormones in your body, is it seems to trigger the sebaceous glands to produce much more sebum than is normal or required. These hormonal changes can interfere with how effectively your pores shed and remove dead skin cells. All of this extra sebum combined with a lot of stuck dead skin cells leads to a clogged pore where bacteria can cause this mixture to become infected and inflamed. What you are left with is a pimple.

What to do for your acne pimples

You can’t do much about the natural hormonal changes occurring in your body, but there are some things you can do to help reduce the number of pimples you get:

1.Keep your skin clean A mild cleanser used twice a day will help keep your skin clean. If your skin is irritated you are more likely to develop pimples. Therefore, choose a gentle facial cleanser and refrain from scrubbing your skin too harshly.
2. Use medication Anti-acne medications can help reduce the amount of sebum produced and also help your skin do a better job of getting rid of dead skin cells. Two of the best medications (available over the counter) are benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid.
3. Keep your skin moist Dry skin leads to more pimples, so use a very light moisturizer on your face.Typically, an oil-free moisturizer will benefit your skin most.

Understanding how pimples thrive makes it easier to understand and accept what changes you have to make to effectively treat or prevent them in future. Now that you have found the right information to help you, it won t be long until your skin starts looking clean, clear, and pimple free!
